If you mention a movie entitled
Heat, most thoughts leap to Michael Mann's gritty 1995 action/crime/drama cocktail, starring De Niro and Pacino.
A handful of people, however, may recall an earlier flick of the same name, starring he of the incredi-tache, Burt Reynolds, as a Las Vegas bodyguard. The 1986 affair had decent writing pedigree, with William Goldman, who also penned
Marathon Man and perennial topper of peoples' fave films ever list,
The Princess Bride.
Anyway, as is Hollywood's wont, this other
Heat is set to be remade, starring none other my fave action bloke, Jason Statham. It may sound a bit second class - not-so-well-known '80s flick, Burt Reynolds - however there's nothing second class about Goldman updating the script, or indeed Brian De Palma (
Scarface,
The Untouchables) plopping his bottom into the director's chair.
Filming on this "tightly-wound, fun action-thriller" is set to start around the end of the year, so I'd hold off queuing at your favourite Blockbuster for a little while yet...
