Blockbuster® Australia

There are currently in excess of 300 stores operating in Australia. Blockbuster® Australia Pty Ltd (Blockbuster® Australia) is considered by many to be the most influential force in the Australian video industry.

The first Blockbuster® store was opened in Melbourne in 1991. In 1994 Australian store numbers rose to 54 with the acquisition of Major Video and Focus in both Victoria and South Australia. In 1995, the growth continued with the opening of our 100th video store in Australia. By the end of 1998, Blockbuster® Australia had opened over 125 stores.

Blockbuster® Australia launched franchising with the conversion of the former Video Flicks franchise group in Queensland in July 1998 and the former Movieland group in Western Australia 6 months later. Having established a "beachhead" with its corporate network, the time was right to fully exploit the Australian market potential, and make the Blockbuster® experience accessible to all Australian households.

Throughout 1999 and 2000, Blockbuster® Australia quickly expanded its franchise store network through the conversion of smaller groups and the granting of individual franchises - more recently through the acquisition of the Movies Plus Group and the conversion of Movies 4U and Movieland stores.

In 2007, the Franchise Entertainment Group, which owns Video Ezy and online retailer EzyDVD, acquired the master franchise rights to Blockbuster in Australia.

Blockbuster® Australia has a wealth of knowledge and experience contributing to the maximisation of the performance of its stores.

#1 Whip It
Drew Barrymore's directorial debut is a classic coming-of-age story... on roller skates. No, it's not back to Xanadu, but into the high-impact world of girls' roller derby, where Bliss Cavendar (Ellen Page) finds herself transformed into Babe Ruthless.
