"John Hancock is a drunk and regarded as a public menace. He’s also the best darned superhero Los Angeles has! Will Smith stars as the super guy with an image problem, who uses his powers for good, but tends to cost the city millions of dollars in damage every time he saves somebody.
Yes, he needs an image makeover and, as luck would have it, somebody happens along who can help. Goodhearted public relations guy Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, TV’s Arrested Development) would have been pancaked by a freight train if not for Hancock, so as thanks he decides to give the super-guy’s public image that much-needed spit and polish. His plan is to demonstrate to the city just how much they really need Hancock – and it works!
As well as great, earth-shattering action sequences, Hancock boasts an intriguing subplot to do with the origins of the titular character’s abilities. It’s all something a little bit fresh and a whole lot enjoyable – and definitely different from the usual crop of superhero flicks.
