There’s one thing in this world that we can always rely on. If we sit down in front of an Adam Sandler comedy, we’re sure to get a whole heap of laughs, see some familiar faces and have some good old dumb fun. You Don’t Mess with the Zohan is certainly no exception – although when you hear the premise you may be surprised!
Zohan (Sandler) is a renowned Israeli army commando. He’s quick, he’s sharp, he’s hot, he has an unhealthy obsession with hummus – and he wants to become a hairstylist! So, he fakes his own death and heads off to the Big Apple, where after some effort he fulfils his dream – and the, erm, ‘dreams’ of many of his clients! All’s great, until one day an old enemy recognises the Zohan – now going under the name Scrappy Coco – and vows revenge for his having taken his beloved goat many years before.
Yep, it’s nuts, but at the heart of this funny flick is a message that’s handled remarkably deftly. Quite simply, we’re all basically the same, so why can’t we all just get along?
